Mackinac Island

Wednesday was spent exploring Mackinac Island (we learned it is pronounced “aw” no matter how it is spelled). A historic car free island in Lake Huron, accessible by ferry, provided us with another perfect Michigan day. We started with a 30 minute ferry ride to the island and grabbed lunch on the water after a walk through town. After lunch we rented bikes and rode the 8.2 mile fringe road around the entire island. It was a beautiful ride and beautiful weather and so peaceful without cars. Getting around town and the island is by bike, foot or horse drawn carriage. We even saw an Amazon delivery horse drawn carriage! Fudge was a must try and buy while here and of course some ice cream. We headed back to the ferry just as rain was coming in. The rain showers were brief and cleared up in time for dinner at our campsite and an evening family walk in the daylight after 9pm. Another Pure Michigan day awaits us tomorrow!
