Sunday marked 2 weeks on the road for Joe, Daughter and Dog and 1 week on the road for Pam and the teenage boys.
We didn’t have a timed entry registration for today, so we needed to enter Yosemite before 6am or after 4pm. It was a laundry morning and chilling in the camper for the kids. We hit the pool at the RV park for a bit and of course, had ice cream. Our plan was to get into the park after 4, bring dinner with us, check out the section of the park we missed and catch some sunsets.
We headed north of Yosemite Valley towards the Tamarack Flat and Tuolunme Valley. Our first stop was Tuolunme Grove to see some giant sequoias. It was about 2 miles round trip with 400 feet of elevation. An easy walk down to the trees with the loss of elevation, but tough return trip to the trailhead. It was worth it though. The tunnel tree at the base is a 60 foot tree stump that they needed to carve a tunnel into its base so stage coaches could fit through.
We stopped for dinner at a pull off after that so that we could see the sunset. It was a beautiful view and we were truly tailgating. A national park at sunset, grilling burgers on the side of the road with no one around except the occasional car driving by was a perfect way to end our time at Yosemite. We continued driving east for a little while longer to see the full sunset and moon rise. It was beautiful.
Monday we move on to our next site.
