Saturday we headed to White Sands National Park. It is the largest sand dune field in the world made from gypsum and it is quite rare. Once of we cleared the green covered dunes after the visitors center, we were surrounded by blinding white dunes all around us. We got sleds to do some sledding. It was 99 degrees so we weren’t there for too long but everyone had fun. Joe and the kids made multiple runs down the dunes. Pam did one, wiped out and was done.
Just outside the park is an army missile testing site. There is a civilian museum on base that Joe wanted to visit but it is closed for renovations until the fall. That seems to be a common occurrence on this trip… we seem to have hit the “off season” in the desert more than we hoped to.
We cooled off in the pool before it was laundry and grocery shopping night! Tomorrow we head further east into New Mexico to our next site.
