Our first trip of 2023 is taking advantage of a long weekend for the kids and heading to Ulster County, New York. This will be the first trip to NY State for Home on Wheels! Pam’s parents grew up in New Paltz, NY and Pam spent a lot of her childhood here, so it seemed fitting we spend a weekend with them showing our kids the area. Friday started with a morning hike on the Walkway over the Hudson which is the worlds longest elevated pedestrian bridge. The bridge extends from Highland to Poughkeepsie along the Hudson Valley Rail Trail. After lunch we headed to Hyde Park to visit the Presidential Library and Home of FDR. We had a National Park Service tour of the FDR home and the grounds at Hyde Park are beautiful. While there, we made a quick stop at The Culinary Institute of America. Our middle is only 13, but he is calling CIA his “dream school”. The campus is in between sessions so it was closed, but we took a drive around campus, which is beautiful! Hopefully we are back here for an official visit some day. On the way back to camp, we drove by Vassar Brothers Hospital where Pam’s mom graduated from nursing school in 1970! She was telling us how much it has changed and grown in the last 50+ years. Back at camp, we had a great steak dinner and of course, found local ice cream for dessert! Great first day!!!
