Wednesday we hit Kings Canyon National Park. Attached to Sequoia, we planned 2 days here, to hit both parks. Our day didn’t start out so good…
Short drive to refuel and get a new battery for the truck and we were good to go! Although between gas prices on the west coast, 4 new rims and now a new battery… this trip has been all about $$$
The Kings Canyon can be entered through Sequoia, but we drove around the park to enter from the west. The entrance to Kings Canyon has the same forestry/trees atmosphere but a little further in you hit the Kings Canyon Scenic Byway which leaves the park and goes into Sequoia National Forrest. The ride takes you about 25-26 miles traveling the canyon from top to bottom before re-entering the park. It was an amazing drive and view in both directions!
Once we left the byway, we were back in the park to explore some waterfalls. The very end of the park is called “Roads End” and is a jump off point for some longer/strenuous hikes and backpackers.
On the return trip just at the end of the Kings Canyon Scenic Byway we found an ice cream shop on the side of the road (of course!).
Back on the west side of the park, we visited Grant Grove Village where we saw the General Grant Tree, General Grant Grove, walked through fallen trees and Big Stump Grove. Overall an excellent 2 days in these parks and a lot of driving on very curvy, winding roads!
