#3 woke up feeling so much better and ready to take on day 7. We started the day late morning in downtown Gatlinburg. We had an early lunch at Ole Red, Blake Shelton’s restaurant which included live country music while we ate. Then we walked through town. It reminded us of boardwalks at the shore, just no beach. We made stops for a Cidar Tasting at Tennessee Cidar Co, exotic car browsing at Speedworkz, candy at Aunt Mahilias and cookies from Byrds Famous Cookies. Then we stopped for more donuts to go from the Donut Friar.
We headed back in for our last big tour of the Great Smoky Mountians. We hiked the Laurel Falls Trail. Then we headed to a secluded section of the park that has a one room school house from 1882. Joe packed our portable grill and burgers and we had dinner riverside. Beautiful peaceful views and a quiet spot was perfect. Our final drive was out to Cades Cove. The one way loop road is closed to vehicles on Wednesdays so we walked a few miles on the loop before dusk looking for wildlife. We saw an elk and a turkey. Not much around besides the many horses that live in the barns for trail rides.
Day 8 we move one to West Virginia!
