We spent our first full day exploring the Great Smokies by truck. It is hot here this week! We did several of the drives recommended by the NP Ranger at the visitors center. We ventured into North Carolina for a bit to see their side of the park. We saw many elk, 3 wild turkeys and 1 bear today. The views here are beautiful and we like this park much more than Shenandoah (sorry Virginia!). Our favorite app – Just Ahead is back with a guided tour of GSM. The kids named the voice over guy George 3 years ago and the name has stuck. We were glad to have George back with us helping us explore!
We ended the day doing a 15 mile “primitive road” drive down the mountains. One way, all gravel, not another soul in site. Joe was in his glory. Pam though this is how horror movies start. After dinner we headed to a funnel cake joint in Pigeon Forge for dessert that our youngest found. Warning… they are huge and 3 is too many for 5 people to split. But if you are in the area, check out The Funnel Cake Factory. Yum!
