We literally stayed in the desert last night! Small but very nice KOA in Monument Valley. Little shade, hot, and snakes 😬🌵 🐍 We didn’t see any, but ewe!
Before taking off, we drove over to Monument Valley which is one of 5 tribal parks in Navajo Nation. The 17 mile tour road that goes through the monuments was still closed due to COVID and only open to guided tours. We could visit though and view from the top where The gift shop was. It was very beautiful and it is easy to see why the Navajo consider Mother Earth to be sacred ground.
We traveled onto our next stop about 90 minutes away, Four Corners. This is also a tribal park in Navajo Nation so masks are still required by everyone even outdoors. This stop was so cool… Utah, Arizona. New Mexico and Colorado all coming together at the same place. We spent some time taking selfies and pix after we waited in line. The middle child made sure that his shoes were always crossing the lines to prove he was in 4 states at once! Afterwards, the kids spend some time wandering the farmers market stands that the locals had set up. Beautiful pottery, jewelry and art.
Another short drive and we arrived in Colorado and our home for the next 3 nights. Tomorrow we rest while Joe works. Then we hit Mesa Verde National Park.
