We started the day checking out the visitors center at Grand Canyon and then walked the rim trail to see some of the more popular overlooks. We were surprised that a lot of the Grand Canyon is still shut down for Covid. The Visitors center was closed. All the museums in the park are closed and only 1 out of the 4 shuttles here are running. We have been very diligent about having the little ones still wear masks inside since they are not vaccinated yet, but nothing is open here. I even tried to go do laundry today and the laundry mat on-site is closed b/c of covid. But we still had a great time driving and/or hiking where we could today to check out one of the seven natural wonders of the world – and it truly is a wonder. It was just amazing and I don’t think pictures could ever do it justice. The sheer size of it and the height you are viewing from is one of the coolest things I have ever seen.
We got back to the camper mid-afternoon and everyone had meltdowns. As in all 5 us us 😭 Everyone is tired and the kids are getting a little homesick. Nothing a taco dinner and some badmitten couldn’t fix. Early bed for all though, we are hoping to get up and catch the sunrise tomorrow.
Just before dusk, we were all inside and I thought I saw something walk right by the window. We opened the door to find a mama elk and 4 babies just hanging out in our campsite! Wonder what tomorrow will bring.
