Come Along On Our Camper Adventures!

Day 23 – Woah We’re Halfway There!

Woah Livin’ on a Prayer! Who sang it with me? We are at the offical halfway point of our trip. 23 days down, 23 to go (unless we decide to cut it short on the back end 😂)

Today we had the most amazing experience at Zion National Park. We hiked the narrows! The narrows are a slot canyon that has been carved out by the river (over millions of years) – which we hiked in! It was so cool and I don’t have a ton of pictures b/c we were in the water – waist deep at some points (Chest high for the baby). Water shoes, hiking sticks and hydration packs were needed today. We were up early at 5:30am to get there and catch a bus. The roads in Zion are tight and the park is small so during the high seasons, the only way to get in is by shuttle bus. We also wanted to beat the heat as temperatures were forecasted well above 100 again today. It was a rough start for the teenager and baby, but once we got on the shuttle everyone was excited!

The shuttle ride was a bit of a bummer b/c it was hard to see out the windows and the landscape was amazing and really high up! it was about a 30 minute ride to get to our stop.

Once there, it was a mile walk to get to the narrows/where the water started. That was where the fun began!

In total, we hiked about a mile in the water. It was tough to navigate at times. Very little support from water shoes was tough on the feet and the water was freezing! Probably about 60 degrees, but we got used to it. It was also difficult to see the rocks in some of the deeper water/stronger currents so there was slipping and tripping. The middle kid tripped at one point and went all the way in… so he and mom decided to take a break on a large boulder and “people watch“ for a while. That was fun! The others continued on for a bit. The entire length of the narrows is 16 miles so there was no way that was happening 😂.

Once we decided to head back, it was a fast paced walk… someone in our crew needed to go to the bathroom (and it wasn’t me!) and did not want to use any of the “natures bathroom” options available 🙄. So we hustled back, about 1/2 mile in the water and a mile on land. Needless to say, mom needed a break after that.

Everyone was exhausted and we even had nappers on the bus ride back 💤 It was only noon!

Ice cream for lunch was a great idea after the morning we had.

We all chilled out this afternoon and napped some more. Tonight we played an intense game of Toasted or Roasted… a game the middle kid found in a gift shop in Yellowstone. And since the fire bans out here have prevented us from building a campfire for quite some time (fire risk is extremely higher right now and even charcoal grills are prohibited) we made S’mores in the microwave for dessert. A pretty great day!
