Sunday was more fun in Acadia and Bar Harbor. We started the day with the boys heading out early for a high adventure hike in Acadia. The girls stayed back for a morning at the pool. After lunch we headed out for a Puffin cruise, which our daughter had been waiting and waiting for. After dinner, we headed for ice cream and then back to Acadia for their Night Sky program at Sand Beach. More details of our day and pictures are below.
The boys left at 6:30am and hiked The Beehive Trail, The Bowl Trail and Gorham Mountain. The Beehive Trail was reminiscent of their Angels Landing hike at Zion NP 2 years ago. Not as long or mentally challenging, but physically challenging all the same. It’s a good thing mom wasn’t on this one! They hiked about 4.5 miles in about 3 hours. Pictures don’t do it justice. Their stories are much better!

The girls had a much more relaxing morning at the pool!

Our Puffin Cruise was fun! Not too many puffin out today, but we did see them, along with a lot of other birds. There were lobster traps and buoys as far as you could see. The harbor seals, gray seals and porpus were out in force though. We saw lots popping their heads up. We also saw some beautiful light houses and views of Acadia and the surrounding islands during our 3.5 hour boat ride. It was so nice to be on the water and it was a gorgeous day!

We stopped at Udder Heaven for ice cream on our way to the night sky’s program. Delicious local Maine ice cream and of course 2 of our kids had to get sundaes bigger than their heads.

We headed to the Night Sky program on Sand Beach. The moon is in the waxing gibbous phase meaning it is 96.1% full. It was so bright that not all the stars were visible, but we still got a good look at some constellations and Saturn and the views of the almost full moon over the water were amazing. The long morning of hiking and a long boat tour proved to be too much for the middle teen. He fell asleep on the beach before the program started and slept through the whole thing!
