Come Along On Our Camper Adventures!

Day 17 – Last full day in Acadia/Bar Harbor

After getting back close to midnight last night following the NPS Night Skies Program, the best idea we had was to get up at 3:30 am to see the first light and sunrise on Cadillac Summit. It is the highest point on the eastern seaboard, and it is the first place in the US to see sunlight. We wanted to get there extra early to see first light in addition to the sunrise. We stopped Sunday night to grab Grafiti Donuts from downtown Bar Harbor to make sure we had some sugar fuel for the early wake up call. Hot chocolate, coffee and tea and we were ready to go. It was well worth only getting 3ish hours of sleep! After we got back, everyone went back to bed for a few more hours.

Lunch at the camper and then we headed back to Acadia to hike Jordan Pond and we ended up also climbing to the Bubble Summit. It was Pam and our youngest’s first summit hike. 1/2 mile rock scramble up with some sections of climbing, a little over 700 ft. 1/2 mile rocky walk down a boulder field, plus the 3.2 miles around the pond. It was a strenuous afternoon for sure. Joe may have been a little vague on the details before we started the climb to the bubble. Pam was less than thrilled. The kids thought it was hilarious. We got caught in a rain storm for the last mile of our hike so we were all soaked when we got back to the truck.

We went back to the camper to check on Charlie and get into dry clothes before heading back out to a fantastic lobster dinner. We have found that roadside local places with only outdoor seating have some of the best food! The Travelin’ Lobster was sooooo good! It did not disappoint.

Next we headed to the Bar Harbor waterfront to shop for souvenirs and we made one last ice cream stop at Udder Heaven. We are all sooooo full but what an amazing day!

Tomorrow we head to our next stop.
