Indiana Dunes National Park and a full day

We hit National Park #31 today! We traveled south to Indiana Dunes National Park today. Designated in 2019, it protects 15 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline in northwestern Indiana. The land features a diverse ecosystem of dunes, forests, wetlands and prairies. Indiana Dunes State Park sits in the middle of the park along with a Steel Mill and the Port of Indiana. We also saw 4 Century of Progress homes from the 1933 Worlds Fair that were moved to park.

It was a definitely a unique park and not the easiest to navigate. We would rank it on the lower end of our 31.

While we were in Indiana, Joe said “How far is Chicago? We should find deep dish pizza”. Some quick internet research and a text to Pam’s friend Ann and we were on our way to one of Lou Malnati’s Illinois locations for their legendary deep dish pizza. Delicious and we ordered enough to bring back leftovers!

We headed back to Michigan to check on Charlie and then headed right back out to South Haven’s South Beach to catch the sunset. After an absolutely beautiful day, clouds seemed to move in right at sunset so we didn’t get the epic views we were expecting. But, on our last night in Michigan, we were on the beach and dipping our toes in Lake Michigan, so you can’t get much better than that.

Our final stop of the night was for more ice cream! Sherman’s South Haven did not disappoint. Tomorrow we start our 2 day trip home. Nothing exciting coming up… just a lot of driving!
