We had a slow start today. Everyone was tired and needs a rest day. This was our last day in Yellowstone Park. We planned on getting to the park early, but the slow moving crew (including Mama) had us arriving at the gate at 8am on a Saturday of a holiday weekend. So we sat at the gate for a while waiting go get through.
We arrived at the Grand Prasmatic Spring as planned early. However once we arrived the teenager/budding photographer realized he left his digital camera battery in the charger, in the camper 🤦🏻♀️ After a brief meltdown, we decided we would stop back at this spring on our way to Grand Teton on Monday since we will be driving by it anyway. It’s a good plan b/c while it was good viewing, it wasn’t great. We beat the crowds, but it was still chilly and the temperature had not risen enough to pull the steam/clouds up away from the ground. We will be back!
After that we spent some time driving and exploring around Yellowstone Lake. There were storms in the area, so we had a combination of sun, clouds, and torrential downpours throughout the day. It was very cool though to stand on the shoreline of the lake in the sun and see the dark clouds moving in and hearing the thunder in the distance.
We then headed to the a Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. No words… just amazing pictures below. We will have to see how it compares to the real Grand Canyon in a couple weeks!
Of course there was wildlife on our drive too. We had a couple “animal jams“ on our drive today. I‘m still on the hunt for a male moose though!
We got back to our campsite in time for a very quick outdoor dinner and a rainbow before more storms and rain rolled in for the night.
Sunday we have to jump sites for 1 night (the 4th was tough to get reservations) and we rest for the holiday!
