We attempted to hit Yosemite early today, but we arrived after 10. Our campsite is a little further out from the park than we thought and even further out from Yosemite Valley. Today we mostly did driving and pull-offs to take in some of the sites. It was Charlie’s first visit to a National Park! It is definitely a beautiful park, but Yellowstone is still our #1. There are some closures and a lot of construction, so unfortunately we are missing some of the big “must sees” on lists from friends. Glacier Point is completely closed for all of 2022 and the only access is strenuous 14+ mile hikes (no thank you!). Mariposa Grove where the giant sequoias are located just closed yesterday due to wildfires and they were actually evacuating the area this afternoon so we will most likely miss that too. The visitors center is also under construction, so parking is minimal and there were detours around a lot of it to get to the existing visitors center.
Today we hit Tunnel View, Bridal Falls, Pioneer Yosemite History Center and Yosemite Valley which gave us great views of El Capitan, Half Dome and Yosemite Falls.
Tomorrow we plan to do some of the hikes in Yosemite Valley.
