Come Along On Our Camper Adventures!

Caves and a LONG drive night to Texas

We hit the caves at Carlsbad Caverns Tuesday. Pam is not a fan of caves, so after skipping Mammoth Caves last summer, Joe booked her a ticket for this one 😩. Something about being stuck 750 feet under the surface of the earth makes her very nervous. The other 4 had a great time and ranked this as a better cave than Mammoth. We started taking the elevator down for the Kings Palace tour which is a 90 minute ranger lead tour. Then after a quick lunch break we headed back in via hiking the natural entrance, which is over a mile pathway decent to the 750 foot mark. Then we did the self guided tour through the “big room”. All in we hiked well over 5 miles of caves. It was nice to wear our sweatshirts for a while in the desert since the caves are 55 degrees year round. We had fun comparing what we all “saw” in the caves stalactites, stalagmites, popcorn formations, etc. Everyone found something from garden gnomes to Star Wars scenes to grumpy monsters to hearts. So much fun!

Once we left the caves, we needed to get back to the camper to get Charlie, hook up, and roll out for Texas. We got a later start then we wanted to do we didn’t arrive at our Texas stopover until 1am. Didn’t bother setting up much b/c we are headed out the Arkansas Wednesday.
