Day 8 – Potatoes, Goats and Bottles

Saturday is the start of our 2nd week on the road and our first full day in Prince Edward Island. Oh Canada… you bring some unique experiences for sure. PEI is a huge island over 3,500 square miles. The bridge to get onto the island is 8 miles long! So we needed to strategically pick what we wanted to do since we won’t have time to do everything in 3.5 days.

The weather was looking bad today so we decided to do some indoor activities and drive down to the south west side of the island. The day turned out to actually be pretty nice and we heard from some locals that is normal for PEI weather. It can be the complete opposite of what is predicted.

We stated the day at the Canadian Potato Museum because why not! PEI farms grow over 100 different varieties, over 2 billion pounds annually and they are shipped all over the world. The small museum showed the history of potato farming in Canada and some farm machine history. Lots of potato facts for a potato loving family!

Next we passed a sign on the way to the Potato Museum and couldn’t pass it up. We headed to Beach Goats and played with goats on the beach. It was so weird and fun at the same time. Tons of laughs!

Our last stop for the day was the Bottle Houses and Gardens. The artist created a 6 gable house, a chapel and a tavern out of 10s of thousands of bottles. Very unique. The gardens on the property were also quite beautiful too.

We ended our day in the southern part of the island for dinner on the water (amazing fish tacos!) and ice cream at a local place where Joe got a unique sundae called Spaghetti and Meatballs and our youngest of course made a mess with her ice cream!
